HAUNTED PLACES IN LAHORE - MODEL TOWN HAUNTED HOUSES IN LAHORE
WHY MODEL TOWN LAHORE IS HAUNTED - A BRIEF
NOTE - WITH PHOTO GALLERY
In Model Town:
"In Model Town lies a huge house, painted
in white, now in a bad condition as it has been deserted since many years,
sources say that no one is willing to live in the house as many paranormal
activities have been carried out, other than the typical door slamming by itself,
immense cries of women have been heard. Though sources are not able to figure
out why is that so, might be any other sort of tragedy or other dark secrets
that lie within the house."
In some cases at least, these houses, scattered across
the city, seem to have become playgrounds for young people, who dare each other
to visit them, or walk in collectively after dark, attempting to call up the
ghosts. At city schools and elite colleges, groups of teenagers
gather data about haunted homes, and then visit them at night. One such
house stands in the Cantonment area, and has been regarded locally as haunted
since its owner was murdered a few years ago. "No one wants to purchase
such a property. There are supernatural beings found under trees at the house.
Sometimes they take the form of snakes," says Adnan, a local shopkeeper.

TWO HOUSES ARE HAUNTED
IN MODEL TOWN LAHORE, ONE IS IN BLOCK A & OTHER IS IN BLOCK F, ACCORDING TO
ABOVE FACEBOOK PAGES.
THE QUESTION IS:-
WHY SOME HOUSES ARE
HAUNTED IN MODEL TOWN LAHORE?
THE ANSWER IS:-
There are many haunted
houses in Lahore. You would shocked to
know that many houses are haunted in Model Town Lahore. A Shamshan
Ghat is a platform designed for the cremation of bodies of people belonging to
Hindu and Sikh faiths. Ideally, a Shamshan Ghat is located on river
bank so that the ashes of the body can be disposed off in accordance with the
tradition. At Partition, Lahore had 11 Hindu crematoria, the
main ones being in Model
Town, Taxali gate and near
the Krishna Mandar. But with the passage of time these buildings were occupied and the new
owners turned them into residences.

There were 300,000 Hindus
and Sikhs living in Lahore as Independence approached. By
August 19, 1947, that number had sunk to 10,000, and by
the end of the month to just 1,000. The majority moved to
India. Many were killed, though there is no knowing their
number. Some neighbourhoods of the city were entirely Hindu and Sikh, others
were mixed, while some were solely Muslim. Gumti Bazaar was a purely
Hindu neighbourhood, with the exception of one resident: Maulana
Salahuddin Ahmed, editor of Adabi Duniya, the leading Urdu literary journal of
its time. Outside the gated city, other predominantly
Hindu neighbourhoods included Krishen Nagar, Sant Nagar, Rajgarh (Kamani
Kaushal lived here), Ram Galli, Nisbet Road, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shah Alami and
Gowalmandi, while the population of Beadon Road and Nicholson Road was a
Hindu-Sikh-Muslim mix. Ichhra and Model Town lay outside the city as it then was. Ichhra, a
Muslim-majority area, was said to be the original Lahore, the very site
where the foundation of the city had been laid by Lahoo, a son of Raja Ram
Chander Ji.
Model
Town was founded by rich and upper middle-class Hindus and had few Muslim
residents. Every house was fronted by a large lawn with lush fruit trees,
especially ones that bore mangoes in summer. There was also a Model Town bus
service that took you into the city, right up to Serai Rattan Chand, Gowalmandi
and Shah Alami.
The residents of Model
Town, who owned their spacious houses, were retired judges, rich businessmen,
traders and upmarket store-owners. Many high court judges, doctors and
engineers had also moved to Model Town from the city. Included among the
residents of this best laid-out residential estate of Lahore were college
professors and officers of the civil service. The famous communist leader BPL
Bedi, who had studied at British and German universities, lived here. His son
Kabir Bedi became a famous actor in post-independence India.

Title:-
Mandir in Model Town
Lahore
Shiv Temple
Shivala of model town Lahore
Hindu Temple in Model Town Lahore
Purpose:-
Hindu Worship Building
Location:-
Model Town Circular Rd, Block D Model Town, Lahore, Punjab
31°29'23.37"N, 74°19'7.12"E
Year of Construction:-
Not accurately known, it is said
that it was constructed somewhere between years, 1920-25.
Brief Synthesis on Architecture of Temple:-
The current temple was considered one of examples of modern
architecture of its time. On ground floor you will see column beams of bricks
present this element further reinforced with steel bars. Modern Kiln Bricks
used in ground floor construction, which further plastered with lime. The
structure consists of single story square “Sanctum” which was designed
for placing the housing deity. In sanctum room corner squinches portion filled
with extended flower bouquet element made of lime. Around all four sides of
sanctum assembly hall for devotees present in Hindu terminology it is called “Ayatana”
From square sanctum structure main temple curvilinear spire
(tower, sikhara) is raised, which is common type of northern Indian Shrines
(Latinas). For construction of curvilinear spire small dimensions bricks used
which are different from ground floor of temple.
A crowning ornament on the top of the shikara is present; it is
called “amalaka” in Hindu terminology this support embedded spire which
might be gold plated at start of its construction. On external walls of temples
you will see double facet a vertical offset projection. In Hindu temple
architecture it is called “ratha”. In front of main temple building
there is dome shaped structure present, on first impression it looks like a
Sikh Samadhi. However, it is said that this building was used by Pandit of the
temple as residence.
Haunted and Paranormal Activities:-
This mandir main complex is closed with 15
ft high walls on three sides, whereas on fourth side there is
a girl school building present, the only way to reach this mandir was
left from inside of this school in form of narrow path. The mandir site
is abandoned for more than half century nobody normally enter inside. Interestingly
except my blog you will not find any picture of this mandir which
has taken from inside. I went peacefully and did detailed photography to document
the place.
When I came out, the watchman of adjacent school started
conversation with me, I was appreciating at least a boundary wall is
constructed to protect the place from further collapsing. But his answer left me in a paradox
condition that boundary wall is not made for protection or conservation of this
site. Adjacent neighbours in recent years have observed
serious paranormal activities happening inside this temple. I wished to accuse the watchman that he should
have told this before allowing us to visit but I thought nothing is done now.
Integrity and Current Condition:-
The current condition is very bad the ground floor column, beam
and slab were demolished in response of Babri Masjid Shaheed in 1992;
the structure is dangerous to visit from inside and could be collapsed at any
time
History of Model Town:- By
Parkash Tandon.
FOR the first generation of professional men in the Punjab it had
been the natural thing after retirement to go back to the place they came from,
and spend their last years as respected elder, village or small town society.
But father’s generation had grown away from their background, for them it was a
question to find a congenial place to settle down.
There is only ONE MUSLIM’S GRAVEYARD and A MOSQUE in this
society in 1925.
Model Town was a place,
the like of which had never been and will never be seen again. It was almost
entirely populated by retired government officials, who all addressed each
other as Rai Sahib, Rai Bahadur, Khan Sahib or Khan Bahadur, Sardar Sahib or
Sardar Bahadur.
Somebody had conceived
the idea in 1925 of acquiring a big tract of jungle wasteland, a few
miles out of Lahore, dividing it up into plots, and constituting it as The Model
Town Co-operative Society. Everyone who bought a plot became a member with
a vote in the Society. The plan of the town was completely geometrical. It had
a series of concentric circular roads, crossed by four main roads at right
angles, and smaller roads in between, all beginning from the inner circle and
dividing the area into equal segments. The roads had no name, but the blocks
were alphabetically numbered. To the old school of thought this was quite
enough to paint on the gate. Later arrivals started giving their homes poetical
names.
The big circular area in
the middle was common property and traversed only by footpaths. Only thorny
shrubs grew there, but it was intended to become a public park. On its
periphery were marked the sites for library, school, barat ghar for housing
wedding parties, and other public institutions. Only the club, the hospital and
dispensary, and the women’s club had been built so far. There were several
private schools. Special areas were set apart for markets and shops. There were
a mosque and a temple, perhaps the most attractive examples of modem religious
architecture I have seen in India, and a Sikh Gurdwara. For practical measure
there were also cremation and burial grounds.
